Business Crime Reduction Partnership

The Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) have been working with local businesses, organisations and Norfolk Constabulary to deliver the current Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) for Norwich city centre: ALERT.

ALERT: Norwich Business Crime Reduction Scheme

The ALERT Scheme is a business crime reduction initiative, focused on data sharing and communication to enable retailers to:

  • Minimise stock loss
  • Protect Staff & Customers
  • Detect and Deter criminal behaviour in their stores
  • Tackle antisocial behaviour

The ALERT Scheme consists of key information sharing resources across Norwich: The DISC Website and App, the ALERT push-to-talk radio, Bi-monthly intelligence briefings and free training opportunities.

DISC – The FREE secure online information sharing system in Norwich

The Database & Intranet for Safer Communities (DISC) is a secure online information sharing and exchange system for crime reduction within the business and retail community. This platform is available free to all Norwich city centre businesses.

The system aims to reduce crime through the sharing of information and is successfully used by over 140 towns and cities in the UK, including 30 BIDs. DISC is centrally managed and continually updated by Norwich BID. The Norwich platform is successfully used by over 140 Norwich-based members, ranging from retail and leisure to bars and nightclubs. Key features include:

  • Antisocial behaviour gallery
  • Targeted Offender, Wanted and I-D Sought galleries & information
  • Instant messaging
  • Daily news updates
  • Key city centre Alerts or incidents
  • Upcoming BID training courses & intelligence briefings

The Norwich DISC platform is also available as a mobile App for iOS and Android, which offers all the services of the DISC website as well as push notifications and instant messaging between users.

We encourage you and your business to join DISC, free of charge. When you share intelligence via DISC, we analyse and contextualise the data to provide alerts and information to our members of emerging trends and local and persistent offenders. We then work with the police and track outcomes to ensure effective action is taken.

We also work with the National Business Crime Solution (NBCS) who are a not-for-profit initiative which works with police and the business community to help tackle business crime in the United Kingdom.
