Business Crime Reduction Partnership
The Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) have been working with local businesses, organisations and Norfolk Constabulary to deliver the current Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) for Norwich city centre: ALERT. We encourage you and your business to join the current Database & Intranet for Safer Communities (DISC) scheme available to all Norwich-based businesses, free of charge.
We also work with the National Business Crime Solution (NBCS) who are a not-for-profit initiative which works with police and the business community to help tackle business crime in the United Kingdom.
Businesses share their data via DISC - our online platform - which we then analyse, put in context and use to provide useful intelligence and alerts to our members on emerging trends and linked series of offences. We then work with police to ensure effective action is taken.
ALERT: Norwich Business Crime Reduction Scheme
The ALERT Scheme is a business crime reduction initiative, focused on data sharing and communication to enable retailers to:
- Minimise stock loss
- Protect Staff & Customers
- Detect and Deter criminal behaviour in their stores
The ALERT Scheme consists of key information sharing resources across Norwich: The DISC Website, the DISC App, the ALERT radio, and Bi-monthly intelligence briefings.

The ALERT Radio Scheme
Delivered by Norwich BID, the ALERT Radio Scheme operates across Norwich City centre and provides a secure channel for businesses to communicate with each other, as well as the Norfolk Constabulary Officers. The scheme is a vital tool for information sharing across the city centre and is an asset to over 100 Norwich businesses. The scheme is currently offered at a discounted rate for all BID levy payers.

DISC – The FREE secure online information sharing system in Norwich
The Database & Intranet for Safer Communities (DISC) is a secure online information sharing and exchange system for crime reduction within the business and retail community. This platform is available free to all Norwich city centre businesses.
The system aims to reduce crime through the sharing of information and is successfully used by over 140 towns and cities in the UK, including 30 BIDs. DISC is centrally managed and continually updated by Norwich BID. The Norwich platform is successfully used by over 190 Norwich-based members, ranging from retail and leisure to bars and nightclubs. Key features include:

- Daily news updates
- Key city centre Alerts or incidents
- Upcoming BID training courses & intelligence briefings
The Norwich DISC platform is also available as a mobile App for iOS and Android, which offers all the services of the DISC website as well as push notifications and instant messaging between users.

Task and Co-ordination Group Meeting
Task and Co-ordination group meeting are to be held monthly at various venues across the city for members to share information, details are available in the events section of the website.
These group meetings focus on:
- Active Offenders across the city
- DISC Updates & monthly reviews
- Current incidents or concerns from local businesses
- Local and National news updates
- Updates from Norfolk Constabulary
- Upcoming training courses & workshops

National Business Crime Solution
National Business Crime Solution is a not-for-profit initiative which works with police and the business community to help tackle business crime in the United Kingdom.
Businesses share their data via our online platform which we analyse, put in context and use to provide useful intelligence and alerts to our members on emerging trends and linked series of offences. We then work with police to ensure effective action is taken.
Our aim is create one of the most collaborative and trusted preventative crime intelligence networks in the UK.
We achieve this by doing the following:
Maintaining a central hub for data sharing that’s recognised by the police and the business community as the most effective platform for gathering intelligence in the UK.
Bringing together information from across the business sector and combining it with police and public sector intelligence to help identify the scale of potential criminal threats.
Helping our members see the bigger picture and the full extent of the potential threat of prolific or persistent offenders, issuing alerts on trends and patterns to help all businesses better understand any potential risks and how they might use their resources to reduce them.
Being recognised as the UK authority on public-to-private data sharing and being a single point of contact for all stakeholders.
Aiming to be totally funded and controlled by NBCS members, ensuring we remain an independent, not-for-profit scheme for all businesses and relevant Government enterprises.
