City Hosts

Norwich BID City Hosts welcome, guide and assist visitors in the BID area providing help and advice to enable them to gain the maximum benefit and enjoyment from their visits.

Similar to the roles of the London 2012 games makers, Norwich BID City Hosts are ambassadors and champions for the BID area.

City Hosts have a really positive impact on people's experience of the city, helping people find interesting and different places to visit, and promoting the city as a friendly place to be. City Hosts are a helping hand, adding value to the city centre whilst showing people how friendly and vibrant the city is.

To date they have spoken to and assisted over 70,000 people!

Norwich City Hosts are hard to miss, wearing highly visible BID-branded "Here to Help" blue tabards, they are out on the streets of Norwich every day of the week. Speaking to an average of 75 people per day, the City Hosts are mainly asked for directions to shops and attractions.  A day in the life of a City Host is an interesting one, meeting new people, answering questions and exploring the city, but what is the experience like through the eyes of a volunteer … read this insight

Our long term plan is to have a bank of more than 50 City Host volunteers who will be seen out and about in the city seven days a week, from 10am to 6pm.

JessOutsideForum hosts cropJessica Bricknell, 3rd Year UEA International Development student and City Host Volunteer says, "I have been volunteering as a city host with Norwich BID for about three months, it's really rewarding to be able to help locals and visitors alike as they make their way around the city - and very satisfying to know that I'm helping to guide people towards the city's attractions and businesses. Beyond the sense of achievement it has given me, I have also met some really lovely co-volunteers who have taught me so many things about Norwich! Volunteering has introduced me to some hidden treasures of the city - why not sign up and see what you discover?!"

Inspired by 2012
We are proud to be associated with Inspired by 2012 where we have taking inspiration for our City Hosts Scheme.  Lord Coe says, “It’s great news that, Inspired by 2012 and the Games Makers, Norwich have launched the City Host scheme. I wish the team luck and look forward to hearing how the scheme develops.”

Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd said, “Having just celebrated Volunteer week and all the merits that volunteers bring to organisations it is great to hear of new initiatives and schemes that embrace volunteers. The City Host scheme by Norwich Business Improvement District will mean that volunteers can make a real difference to the city centre, acting as a friendly face to meet and greet visitors whilst imparting their valuable knowledge of what the city has to offer. I wish Norwich BID luck and all the best with their new scheme”.
