Greener Cleaner City

We want to make Norwich one of the UK's leading working and shopping environments by introducing environmental and sustainable initiatives.  Coordinated waste collections, reducing the impact of vacant shops and promoting Norwich as one of Europe's greenest cities are all on our agenda.  Working with FirstBus we are able to offer BID businesses membership to their Corporate Travel Club and substantial savings for employees.

We have worked closely with the business community to understand the needs and priorities for a innovative waste and recycling service and we are working in partnership with local company MW Whites Ltd to deliver cost savings, great service and strong management.

Norwich BID is confident the city centre waste and recycling scheme can save businesses money.  The scheme aims to provide businesses in the city with the following services:

  • An excellent recycling service
  • A general waste collection service at a “significantly” reduced cost
  • A reduction in congestion and pollution in the city centre by reducing the number of waste collections on a weekly basis
  • Minimising business exposure to future land fill tax increases

The Norwich BID aims to also dramatically improve recycling rates and under the new system, cardboard, food waste and all dry mixed recyclable goods will all be recycled, with only modest amounts of residual waste being sent to landfill.

"I appointed White's once the BID identified them as the preferred waste management supplier for our city.  They've been responsive to requests, their service delivery has been excellent and all at a significantly reduced cost."  Paul McCarthy, Centre Manager, Castle Mall.

The scheme has been a great success and we have streamlined and improved trade waste collections within the city centre whilst achieving great cost savings for businesses.

To find out how you can join other Norwich BID businesses to make significant savings on waste collections please contact Martin Blackwell, Business and Operations Manager or call 01603 727936.

Vacant Shop Windows

To brighten up some of the empty shop windows in the city centre we have displayed city centre maps and what's on posters, not only do these provide useful information to city centre users but they also lessen the impact of vacant shops on the city centre landscape.
